Alternative Body Work Therapy Services
"Begin doing what you want to do now. We are not living in eternity. We have only this moment, sparkling like a star in our hand and melting like a snowflake." ........Francis Bacon
Alternative Body Work Therapy is a gentle, effective approach to working with the muscles and other soft tissues of the body. Many times there is an imbalance in the tissues due to poor posture, repetitive strain, trauma, overuse, or even surgery. Because of these intrusions, body tissues, including skin, muscles, tendons, and ligaments become tight, short, and painful.
This page reflects my commitment to you, my clients, as I continually update my therapies.
Manual Lymphatic Drainage
It's a light skin stretching therapy that promotes the movement of excess fluid from a limb that is swollen. With this therapy, the body then returns that excess fluid to the circulation so that it can be eliminated.
Myofascial Release
The fascial tissue of the body has been compared to a spider web: a network of connective tissue wrapped around the body's organs and other structures. When the fascia develops adhesions from trauma and surgeries, people can experience considerable pain that is not necessarily at the site of the occurrence. THUS, DON'T CHASE THE PAIN!
Visceral Manipulation
Think of a set of gears. If one gear malfunctions, none of the other gears work as they should. The abdominal organs are essentially a set of gears. Each organ's motion depends on the optimal function of other organs. How about if a gear is missing? Gallbladder, uterus, appendix... what do you think happens to the other organs? Or how that missing organ might affect the rest of the body? Through assessing your abdominal organs, VM can address things such as heartburn, constipation, low back pain, and sciatica to name a few. It is a light touch and gently urges the body to return to its natural function.
Pelvic & Sacral Management
There is not a more important section of the body than the pelvis and sacrum. These structures must be aligned properly. If not, then the upper body (torso/neck/head), and the lower body (hips/knees/ankles) are misaligned also. With this in mind, I have a tool (Sacrowedgy), that is useful in achieving realignment of the sacrum and pelvis.
Cranio-Sacral Therapy
(KRAY-knee-o SAY-crall) Therapy
A very light touch (about the weight of a nickel) is used to assess the motion of the body that is created by the nervous system. This motion is translated throughout the body. Predetermined locations are assessed starting at the feet and moving toward the head. Where there is a lack of this motion, there are restrictions. By evaluating your body this way, I am better able to determine the cause of problems rather than chasing symptoms.
Massage Therapy Cupping
Cups shaped like bells are placed on the region of the body that has pain or tightness. Negative pressure is then applied through the cup, causing tissues to become relaxed and increasing circulation to the area. Indicated for scar tissue, edema, chronic pain, and inflammation of joints...
